Bathroom Remodeling in Marietta, GA

An interior bathroom in Marietta is usually outside historic review entirely, and knowing why is more useful than assuming either way.

Interior work, and the one thing that pulls a bath outside

Marietta runs two historic instruments in the same chapter of its code and they disagree with each other on details, which is why they get confused. What they share is the concept that matters for a bathroom: review attaches to a material change in appearance, and the Historic Preservation Commission's version of that test turns on what is visible from a street, a sidewalk, or an area of public gathering. A bathroom is interior, so ordinarily nothing about it is in scope. Two things pull it back in. The first is a window — replacing one, changing one, or adding one on a visible elevation. The second is a roof or wall penetration for the exhaust fan, which is a genuine exterior alteration even though nobody thinks of it as one. Marietta's exemptions are unusually specific and generally helpful here: like-kind historic window replacement and roof work in the same color or in gray, black or white are named exemptions. We check the local map against your address at Discovery, because the National Register district your neighborhood is famous for is not what governs the answer.

The same caveat everywhere: waterproofing is not a finish

In every town on this list, the part of a bathroom that decides whether it is still good in fifteen years is the assembly you cannot see. Pan slope, membrane, corner treatment and the transition at the curb or the threshold are specified in writing and inspected before a single tile goes down. It is the least photogenic week of the project and it is the only week that cannot be redone later without taking the room apart again.

What this covers

Each of these is a service in its own right, offered in Marietta and everywhere else we work. What follows is how it goes in Marietta specifically, rather than a fifteenth thing we do.
