A covered porch and pool house

A covered porch and a small pool structure with a changing room and bath.

The covered porch off the back of the house, looking toward the pool.

What we did here

A covered porch off the back of the house and a small structure at the far end of the pool with a changing room, a bath, and enough of a kitchenette to make it useful for a guest staying a week.

Two structures, one design, one permit, one mobilization. Running them as one project rather than two saved a design phase and a second set of trades, which is the argument for doing adjacent work together whenever the calendar allows it.

The pool house is where the sanitary drain question got interesting. Getting a bath that far from the house meant a route worked out during design against the existing line, not discovered by trenching.

  • The pool house from across the water.
  • Inside the pool house: changing room, bath door, and a compact kitchenette.
  • Detail of the porch ceiling boards meeting the beam.
